Friday Spotlight--Juliana Haygert

Yesterday, Falling For Fiction had the opportunity to have Juliana Haygert's query letter for her New Adult novel Breaking the Reins. You can check it out here. Today, we get to have her back :)

Welcome to Falling For Fiction! We’re so glad to have you here today!
Thanks for having me! This is such an honor!

Tell us about yourself in 35 words or less—GO!
Brazilian, wife, mother, friend, writer, dreamer, dancer, gamer, chocolate and coffee lover. I laugh easily, but it’s even easier to irritate me. Nevertheless, I’m really nice and I love to make new friends.
I think I might be your long, lost twin (or much older sister) :)

When did you start writing?
I was 13 years old when my Portuguese teacher assigned a writing project to the class: to write a short novel (more like a novelette or novella, but in Brazil we don’t use these terms). I started writing that same day and spent the entire night in front of the computer. It was love at the first word ;)
That is a perfect love story!

What are you working on now?
I’m writing Breaking the Reins, a NA contemporary romance (the query was critiqued here yesterday!), and plotting The Everlast #2, which is untitled yet. I plan on going back to my gypsies’ book soon too!
I've had the privilege of reading one of your romances before and it was brilliant! Breaking the Reins sounds like another gripping, emotionally intense story--love it!

How did you start blogging?
It just happened, over two years ago. I noticed the writing community was blogging and I didn’t want to stay behind. Though I’m kinda burnt out of blogging right now.
Same! On both accounts (sadly) :)

What is one pearl of wisdom you’ve learned along your writing journey?
That everything is subjective.  A manuscript may send an agent running, and another agent may fall deeply in love with it. And that we never stop learning in this profession – about writing, publishing, etc.
Hear, hear!

What inspires you?
Music. My father always says music is my battery. You turn off the music and I stop hehe.
I'm now picturing you as the pink Energizer Bunny with an iPod :)

Do you have a favorite quote or motto about writing?
That are soooo many. I have tons on my pinterest. But one that I read today and it stuck out was: “A book is proof that humans are capable of working magic.” I love this!
That's a good one!

Igniting Inspiration:
Plotter or pantser? A little bit of both
Drafting or editing? Drafting. Hate, hate, hate editing
Dialogue or action? A little bit of both
Facebook or Twitter? Twitter
Salty or sweet? Salty THEN sweet ;)
Sun or snow? Sun
Coffee or tea? Coffee
Early riser or night owl? After my daughter was born, early riser.

While Juliana Haygert dreams of being Wonder Woman, Buffy, or a blood elf shadow priest, she settles for the less exciting—but equally gratifying—life of a wife, mother, and author. Thousands of miles away from her former home in Brazil, she now resides in Connecticut and spends her days writing about kick-ass heroines and the heroes who drive them crazy.

Thanks Juliana!

Now be sure to go to Juliana's links and learn more about her and all the projects she has in the mix :)

  2. Love learning about new authors. Thanks for bringing Juliana to our attention. By the way, I think the music as a battery is great. My daughter (17) operates the same way!
